Jeremy Bremen has a secret. All his life he's been cursed with the ability to read minds. He knows the secret thoughts, fears, and desires of others as if they were his own. For years, his wife, Gail, has served as a shield between Jeremy and the burden of this terrible knowledge. But Gail is dying, her mind ebbing slowly away, leaving him vulnerable to the chaotic flood of thought that threatens to sweep away his sanity. Now Jeremy is on the run--from his mind, from his past, from himself--hoping to find peace in isolation. Instead he witnesses an act of brutality that propels him on a treacherous trek across a dark and dangerous America. From a fantasy theme park to the lair of a killer to a sterile hospital room in St. Louis, he follows a voice that is calling him to witness the stunning mystery at the heart of mortality. Review: Good author good read - I am not a scifi fiction fan (except I really enjoy scifi movies and shows. Go figure.) but my eldest son recommended this author and this book. I really liked it. So I can recommend for any reader, scifi fan or not. Review: Almost but Lost - At times this book almost presents a clear and believable process for a holographic generation of consciousness, which is the origin of mental imagery producing the positing of self and others, an internal reality, which may or not be a true representation of what is. Telepathic abilities involving the projection and reception of ones own and others holographism and internal dialogs and being able to block or receive such as intimate knowledge of others.

Exhausted in a good way
To me it's like reading a Cronenberg movie. When the action hits so to speak in between moments of.... heavily Laden? Probably not grammatically correct. With scientific mathematics searching for the meaning of your soul spiritually philosophically intermixing with parallel universes and a schizophrenic telepathic love story LOL punctuation? Even though I've read thousands of books, I can't put my thoughts into words. It's way beyond my ability to understand yet fascinating. One of my favorite authors

cool concept, a bit scattered to follow
This is an ambitious book and concept, but it felt too diffused to me. The elements of chaos theory just lost me. The idea of mind reading and the blessings, and mostly curse, of it was well-explored.

Decent book. Miz Morgan very scary!!!!
Good book. Miz Morgan woke me up. Liked that part. Most of the book is highly technical but I enjoyed it. Been a fan of Simmons since Carrion Comfort; One of my favorite books.!!

Review more about the author than the book
I have bought this book probably ten times as it is one of the few that I give away over and over. Love, pain, perseverance, triumph and redemption. All the of symptoms of the human condition illuminated brilliantly. I recommend reading Dan Simmons as he has made a genre all to himself. I consider him up there with Stephen King and Clive Barker in terms of fluidity and insight,

So many pieces all developed in Simmons' extraordinary way, ...
So many pieces all developed in Simmons' extraordinary way, all to be assembled in the mind-numbing ending that leaves readers questioning whether they read correctly and how it's possible for an author to develop such a complex and genius-inspired coda.

Although I kept waiting for him to turn invisible. They really took a lot of liberties in the Kevin Bacon movie.

no al nivel del autor
Buff no me ha gustado nada, son como mini historias pegadas y en general aburre y es un tanto absurdo, final incluido, el cual por cierto no me ha gustado nada nada, lejos de otros trabajos del autor
