What age is the globe for?

I'm not sure if an age was listed on the product, but in my personal opinion, I would say at least 6 years old. My 2 and 3 yr old girls love to push the buttons on the globe, but they are too young to really understand what it's saying.

Is the the type of globe where you touch anywhere on globe with pen and it will give you information?

Yes - Its an interactive smart globe, as well at the globe it sell it has 3 activity panel that are used for the activities

the directions refer to a local map located on the base. I see only the activity panel. Am I missing something?

There should be a map of the United States that works with the pen. You can select each state and learn different facts.
