How many are in the set? cover image shows 3?

This is not a set. It is a single Superdisc. The picture comes from the manufacturer and is intended to show the colors that are available. Sorry for any confusion but typically the description says what is included. - Thanks, The Wright Life

where to send an email for color preference?

You should be able to do a "customization request" through amazon. We'll get the email is the order is placed through us. Thanks

Can you throw a forehand with this? Like in ultimate frisbee?

The disc is soft, and accuracy is heavily impacted when trying to throw forehanded. A traditional, hard frisbee is better. With that said, this is the best throwing/flying frisbee I've bought over the years, and highly recommend it if you have kids.

Is this appropriate for newly turned 4 and 5 year old boys who don't know how to throw yet? If not, recommendations?

Hi Cheryl,These would be great for 4 or 5 year olds. These are smaller in diameter than the SuperDisc Ultra, and would be better sized for the kid. Please contact us if you would like to get started today.Thank you!Mira
