I would say that an extra small could be comparable to a 5t, just slightly larger/longer.

How is the Thickness of the material?

Pretty thick, definitely for colder weather!

What size will fit a teenager?

Hi! I actually went on the Children's Place website to find out the size that would fit my son. I couldn't find the info on Amazon! Hope this helps!
