The worst thing is

The book is filled with chunks after chunks of pseudocode with barely any explanation. The worst thing is, at the beginning of the book, the author gave an example of the recursive algorithms, which is fairly simple yet the code is wrong. I immediately returned the book. How can I trust the more complicated code if the author couldn't get the simplest one correct? The author is pretty famous though, perhaps all smart guys are like that?
