My favorite Down album of all time!
This is my favorite Down album of all time, and I hate to say it but the other albums are a little weak in comparison. I have all of the released Down albums and this one byfar is best. If you like screaming and singing combined, this is the album for you. I wish they would return to this sound but that does not seem possible. This album is smooth going down but also packs a punch, and I loved it. The lyrics I read online are more personal, and are dark *depression, suicide, drugs*. However, I enjoy it for its Southern-esque music feel, and the singer sounds great. This is the 1 Down album to pick up, if you have to pick 1 up. Don't hesitate just listen!

Unreal
The plain black cover gives no hint to how purely cool and hard this album really is. This fuggin album is very perfection in every way. Do not hesitate to buy one for each disk player you own. The drumming is so damn sweet and I'm completely blown away everytime I turn this on. Guitar work is completely awe inspiring. The sound of Nola is perfection in my feeble little mind. I'm going to revise my other ratings to remove a star to pay homage to this album.

A must have masterpiece!
This album is an absolute masterpiece. From the first Cymbal hits in Temptation’s Wings to the fade out of Bury Me In Smoke the boys in Down never fail to deliver the heaviest blues metal riffs while contrasted by soft acoustic guitars in songs like Jail and Pray for the Locust. If you haven’t bought this album, you need to.

Down NOLA
It's a side project of Phil Anselmo. It big deviation from Pantera. It's just a really good Heavy rock album. Lots of crunchy guitar and Phil's screaming vocals but also you get interesting instruments they use;like bongos and cowbell. The songs tends to be moodier, more drawn out. Nice harmonizing and bluesy guitar gives you a real laidback feel on some songs. It's quite a fine album to enjoy over and over again.

These guys should be huge.
Back when Phil's screaming-muscle was in its prime, Down recorded 13 ultra heavy, yet incredibly dynamic southern/metal/sludge/wonderful tracks. I can't say much more, as I'm only on my first cup of coffee. Buy this record. Buy Down III while you're at it. They're great jogging/driving music and much more.

Down - NOLA
The New Orleans based band Down released their debut album NOLA all the way back in 1995 and over the years it has moved from a sort of cult classic to one of the essential heavy metal albums of our time. Down brought together Phil Anselmo, Pepper Keenan, Kirk Windstein and surprisingly Jimmy Bower on drums to play a sort of sludge and southern rock influenced stoner rock style. NOLA, named after the band's New Orleans Louisiana roots, contains many of the band's most loved songs, from the likes of big rocking songs such as `Lifer,' `Bury Me In Smoke,' and `Hail To The Leaf,' to softer more contemplative moments like `Jail,' and `Pray For The Locust.' The album has no weak links, basically every track is a classic and the majority of the album is played live to this day which should speak volumes of about its quality. As well as inspired songwriting, and great performances, the album has an exceptional production job, almost years ahead of its time. The album sounds big and meaty, with an immense drum sound yet at the same time sounds like an old undiscovered vinyl gem from back in the 70s. NOLA may come from a pretty esteemed pedigree, but at the same time actual manages to still be greater than the sum of its parts. If you have the slightest interest in Down or even just in the genre, you really need to check this album out.

Animalesco!
