Will this system work with a well?

Yes certianly. Although you will not have chlorine in your water, you may have high iron and other elements which this filter and softener will help remove. Best to test your water to determine the hardness so you can set the unit correctly

how many pounds of salt are needed?

You will want a couple bags to get started, the tank will hold roughly 200 pounds if you fill it up

will this setup also filter sulfur out of the water system? I'm having a bar sulfur oder?

No, you must have well water or your water district is terrible. There are several factors that causes sulfur smell in your water. 1. Your hot water tank anode rod needs to be replaced and tank flushed out. 2. In order to filter out the sulfur you will need aeration tank with chlorine Infused through tablets ( like a pool system except not as much chlorine.

Nice but could benefit from fittings

No complaints with the softener. Just disappointed that it does not come with the house to connect the filter to the softener tank. Having a hard time finding it locally and will probably end up having to fabricate something.
